Horrible winter sports accident on St. Stephen’s Day in the Tyrolean lowlands: A freerider crashed into a boulder at full force after jumping during a video recording and was seriously injured. The 29-year-old was rescued by helicopter and flown to hospital.
The fatal alpine accident took place in the Rofan Mountains in the Karsee area near Maurach in the Schwaz district. According to police, the 29-year-old local resident was there with his friends to record video clips.
The jump into the field ended fatally
“He was jumping over boulders in open terrain with his skis. After jumping, he crashed into a snow-covered rock,” said investigators, describing the devastating accident.

The young man suffered serious injuries. The Maurach mountain rescue service and an emergency medical helicopter were sent to the accident scene from the Tyrol control center. “After initial treatment by the emergency doctor, the injured person was flown by helicopter to the hospital in Schwaz,” the report concluded.
