After the death journey from the Magdeburg Christmas market, the alleged perpetrator Taleb A. is said to have lost his license as a doctor (see video above). A corresponding procedure has already been initiated.
In principle, doctors can lose their license if it later turns out that they have not completed their studies or are unreliable. The state administration of the German state of Saxony-Anhalt announced that Taleb A.’s approval will initially be suspended. The activity is prohibited at least for the duration of the ongoing criminal proceedings.
The suspected murderer had mainly worked in a psychiatric hospital in the penal system and, among other things, cared for addicted patients. According to media reports, his competence was repeatedly questioned, for example by colleagues. It was said that he prescribed unnecessary sedative pills and advised alcohol.
Taleb A. is currently in custody. He reportedly raced through the Christmas market in Magdeburg in a car a week ago on Friday. Five people were killed and up to 235 others were injured.
No more victims in mortal danger
Magdeburg University Hospital treated 72 injured people after the attack, including 15 seriously injured. On Thursday, the director of intensive care medicine announced that none of the victims were now in danger of death. The injured suffered multiple hemorrhages and multiple bone fractures.

The organizer did not stick to his own concept
In Germany, politicians are currently discussing possible mistakes by the authorities and the police. It became known that escape and rescue routes were not secured with steel chains, even though the organizer had specified this in the security concept. “Such steel chains must connect concrete block barriers over a longer distance. They must allow flexible opening for emergency services and fire brigades,” the Ministry of the Interior said.
We are also looking for possible errors in the work of the police. According to the Ministry of the Interior, vehicles with security forces should have been stationed at four locations around the Christmas market. Only three and one cars may have deviated from the location.
Previous information from the authorities is also central to the debate. “It is clear that there have been repeated references to the man over the years. My expectation is clear: We must now investigate very carefully whether there are any errors on the part of the authorities in Saxony-Anhalt or at federal level. There can be no false restraint,” said German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
Man on the radar longer
There are said to have been warnings about the 50-year-old from Saudi Arabia, the man’s home country. Criminal charges have also been filed against A. in Germany and the police have spoken to people who were in danger. Only a few weeks before the fatal ride, contact was made with the suspect. Taleb A. was investigated for threats, defamation and sexual offenses. In a post on Platform

The Christmas market in Magdeburg was originally scheduled to last until Sunday, December 29, but was no longer open after the attack. Disassembly has now started, cabins and large loose parts have been loaded onto trailers. Just a few meters away, many people continue to place flowers, candles and cuddly toys in memory of the victims a week after the attack.
