There are drive-thru pharmacies and tobacconists and anyone who likes to eat fast food is probably familiar with this convenient ordering and pick-up option. Now the technology is moving to the banking world. The Sparkasse Oberösterreich has set up a drive-in ATM at its new branch in Enns. Customers also have access to their safe 24 hours a day – thanks to robots.
The Sparkasse Oberösterreich moved from the central square in Enns to Doctor-Marckghott-Platz in June. And the financial institution is now pulling out all the stops, from advice to digitization, which makes banking possible 24 hours a day. Eye-catcher: the drive-in ATM directly in front of the branch. “We are creating a convenient, fast and uncomplicated way to withdraw money,” says Raimund Oberaigner, the regional director of Enns-St. Valentin in the Sparkasse OÖ, who reveals: “The device is now used as a walk-in, drive-in and bike-in.”
All banks are faced with the balancing act between digital and personal excellence. “As a modern banking institution, we strive to break new ground in digitalization. For me it is not either/or, but together. Customers must choose the channel they want. We did not build the drive-thru ATM to prevent customers from entering the branch,” Oberaigner emphasizes.
Security system in four phases: from chip card to fingerprint scan
Speaking of “in the branch”: here too there is now a safe system that allows customers to access their rented lockers 24 hours a day. To open one of the 500 compartments, you must successfully complete a four-stage security system: from the personal access card, which gives access to the secure cabin, to entering your own PIN code and biometric control using a fingerprint , all the way to the key, which opens the compartment.
A robot removes the desired locker from the safe and brings it to the customer. The robot will later return the locker to its usual place just as automatically. Anyone who operates the safe compartment system can read the instructions for use on the wall step by step.
No additional drive-thru ATMs are planned at this time
By the way, Enns is not the only location in the Sparkasse Oberösterreich with a 24/7 customer safe. The system is also already in use in Kirchdorf an der Krems, Ried im Innkreis, Schärding and Gallneukirchen. And what about drive-thru ATMs? Enns will retain his ‘unique selling point’ here for the time being. No further devices are planned here.
