A fire broke out in a holiday home in Auffach around 8:45 p.m. A German couple (both 84 years old) lived in the building. The two were also in the building when the fire broke out. A guest from the main building discovered the flames and then called the emergency services.
Because the building is located in a difficult to reach and somewhat remote location, the house was already completely ablaze when the fire brigade arrived. “Despite extensive firefighting efforts, the building could no longer be saved,” the police said.
The 84-year-old German had to be taken by ambulance to the hospital in Kufstein with suspected smoke poisoning. Fortunately, his wife was unharmed. During the extinguishing work, a firefighter also seriously injured his ankle.
