Two Austrian passengers and a Serbian pilot have been injured in a minor plane crash in Croatia. The Cessna 172 crashed Tuesday morning during a panoramic flight over the island of Brac, Croatian media report. The occupants were flown by military helicopter to the hospital in Split.
“All three people are out of danger,” a fire chief said, according to Hina news agency. The light aircraft would have taken off from Brač airport. The plane crashed on the south side of the island near Blaca Monastery.
Hard to reach area: drone used
Flight control was alerted around 9.30 am. According to the fire chief, one of the prisoners had turned himself in. The accident happened in a hard-to-reach place. A drone was also used to search for the wreckage. About an hour after the alarm was raised, rescue teams were at the scene of the accident. All three occupants were conscious. They were outside the wreckage, media reported.
According to an eyewitness, the plane sounded unusual, low and slow flying just before the crash. “There was something wrong with the engine. You could hear it rustling, it made a strange noise, like something was about to break,” a guard of the monastery museum told the local newspaper Slobodna Dalmacija.
