Money for aid projects – Van der Bellen honors star singers with a donation

Date:

This year, 85,000 children and young people will travel through Austria as star singers, collecting donations for aid projects and offering New Year’s blessings. Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen received delegations from all over Austria and presented a personal donation for the impressive efforts.

Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen welcomed star singers from all over Austria to the Hofburg on Monday and fulfilled their commitment. The delegations came from all dioceses and from South Tyrol. The donations collected by children dressed as kings during home visits between New Year and Epiphany would provide children in poor regions around the world with important “help to help themselves”, the Federal President emphasized on Monday afternoon.

“Star song connects people”
The star singers conveyed their New Year’s blessings to their host and brought gifts, including a poster with the motto ‘Star singing connects people’. Van der Bellen and his wife Doris Schmidauer in turn presented the star singers with a personal donation for the aid projects they supported. The Federal President paid tribute to the hard work: “You walk around, knock, sing and ask for donations, whether it is raining, snowing, the sun is shining or it is freezing.”

This year, 85,000 children and young people are on the run
The visit of the star singer would bring great joy to many people, says Van der Bellen: “You convey your message of peace, which is so important today, to everyone and you make no distinction based on faith, origin, skin color or social status. .” Star singers are therefore role models for good coexistence in society. Martina Erlacher, the chairwoman of the Catholic Youth Group, which organizes the Epiphany campaign every year, also reiterated the concern of “peaceful and respectful coexistence in Austria and worldwide”.

This year, a total of 85,000 children and young people will travel through Austria as star singers between New Year and Epiphany, accompanied by 30,000 adult volunteers, Erlacher reported. Since the Sternsinger tradition began 71 years ago, 540 million euros have been raised for aid projects around the world. Last year there was a record result of 19.5 million euros.

More visits planned
A visit to the Federal President and other celebrities traditionally marks the start of the Epiphany campaign. Cardinal Christoph Schönborn had already visited the week before and on January 1, a group of star singers from Vorarlberg, together with colleagues from Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Hungary and Slovakia, will meet Pope Francis during the New Year’s Mass in St. Peter’s Basilica. Basilica.

Further visits are planned in the coming days with government members, party leaders, state governors and bishops.
