The firefighters of Vitoria-Gasteiz see “small progress” after a meeting last Monday with the municipal council, although there is a lack of “concretions” in the municipal proposals, so negotiations will continue January 15 and in the meantime they suspend their mobilizations for these fortnights.
Last week the fire brigade had a five-day strikethrough Saturday morning, to demand solutions to structural staff and facility problems.
They have been demanding measures for more than a year to solve the ‘serious problems’ at this service with an increase in staff. In concrete terms, they demand that it be expanded 11 firefighters -2 additional components per service- The operational staff currently consists of 115 firefighters.
Today, the directors of Prevention, Public Prosecution and Security met with a representation of the firefighters to present the municipal plans, and agreed that the city council will specify in a future meeting the deadlines and money to implement them, according to the spokesperson of this group, Raul Viloria.
For the time being, they will suspend their mobilizations for these two weeks, but if the city council’s proposals do not convince them they could resume.
