A knife attacker injured several passers-by in the seaside resort of Rimini on Italy’s Adriatic coast and was then shot dead by police.
Egypt’s ANSA news agency, citing police, reported that he had attacked people on the street during New Year’s Eve celebrations.
The warning shot had no effect
After the carabinieri arrived, one of the officers tried to stop the man with a warning shot. When the attacker then ran towards the police officer with the knife in his hand, he fired the fatal shot.
Victim is not in danger of death
The four injured victims were taken to hospital, but their lives were not in danger. Further details about the crime and the attacker’s motives were initially unknown.
