On New Year’s Eve, two serious skiing accidents occurred in the Bregenzerwald and Montafon. In Mellau a winter athlete suffered a serious pelvic injury, and in Gargellen a seven-year-old girl broke her femur.
The 47-year-old skier was on slope number 25 in the Mellau ski area towards the Wildgunten valley station on Tuesday. A 49-year-old winter sports enthusiast was also on his way to the lift and took a wide turn before he wanted to queue for the chairlift. The 47-year-old took the shorter route and skied over the man. Ten meters later she fell and fell backwards on her buttocks.
Shortly after the fall, she felt pain in her pelvic area. She was flown to Bödele by the crew of the rescue helicopter “Gallus1”. From there the ambulance went to Dornbirn city hospital, where doctors diagnosed a triple pelvic fracture.
I lost control on a left turn
Last year’s ski day also ended painfully for a seven-year-old. The girl was on marked ski slope number 10 in the Gargellen ski area shortly before noon. In a left turn she went off the ski slope for an unknown reason, hit a slope marker and was seriously injured 14 meters outside the edge of the slope.
The girl was rescued with rope by the pister rescue team and the crew of the rescue helicopter “Robin 1” and then flown to the state hospital in Feldkirch. A fracture of the femur was diagnosed there.
