On New Year’s Day, an unusual incident occurred at Austrian Airlines: Because a water pipe broke on board, a replacement aircraft had to be organized in Vienna-Schwechat.
As aviation magazine Austrian Wings reported on Wednesday evening, the Airbus A321 reportedly took off from Vienna-Schwechat to Amsterdam at 2:50 p.m. However, while filling the water tanks, a water pipe broke. Such a technical defect is rather rare.
Because the aircraft could not fly to the Netherlands due to a broken water pipe, a replacement aircraft was searched for and eventually found. After a delay of approximately two and a half hours, the plane was able to take off from runway 29 in Vienna at 5:18 p.m.
According to information from the aviation magazine, the return flight was delayed by about an hour and a half. In a broadcast the incident is described as “remarkable”.
