The Lufthansa subsidiary Swiss reduced its offer from August to October by 676 flights. That corresponds to about two percent of the planned flight program, the Swiss airline announced on Tuesday. Already in April and early June, the company, which was struggling with staff shortages, had phased out the flight connections for the summer and autumn.
This time, Swiss cited an increasing number of Covid infections as reasons for the further removals. Capacity bottlenecks and strikes at individual European airports and air traffic control are also responsible for the decision.
“Apologies to those affected”
“The complex aviation system in Europe and worldwide is currently at its operational limit,” said Swiss board member Dieter Vranckx. “We deeply regret the further flight plan adjustments that have become necessary and offer our sincere apologies to the passengers affected.”
