According to Amaia Pintado, head of ELA Commerce in Gipuzkoa, stores are “more fortified” on these dates and it is difficult to achieve closures on other strike days. “But the follow-up to the strike has been very good, and there are certain stores (of well-known multinationals) that we have been able to close,” he stressed.
Pintado explained that she has a “armor” before the state agreement, that is that the provincial agreement remains applicablethat was achieved “thanks to the workers’ struggle” after nineteen days of strike.
“The content of the state agreement will bring uncertainty to the sector. Although nothing has been signed yet, we already know that these agreements worsen working conditions compared to what we have signed here. There is talk of discontinuous part-time permanent contracts, of regulating work on Sundays and public holidays and of salaries not linked to the CPI, well below the salaries already established in Gipuzkoa,” he stressed.
He has assured that workers in the sector “are strong” and “will continue with the strike calls.”
ELA, which started these strikes in July 2023, has issued a call new strike day for January 7day on which the sale in many stores
