On Friday afternoon, heavy smoke came from the windows of an apartment in Linz-Urfahr. Two people tried to fight the fire with fire extinguishers, but were literally smoked out. They were taken to hospital for checks, but no one else was injured. The fire brigade quickly had the flames under control.
At 5:13 p.m., the alarm bells rang at the Linz main fire station and the northern fire station. Already 24 men in six vehicles rushed to Urfahr on Roth-Limanowa-Strasse. Heavy smoke was already coming from the windows of an apartment on the first floor of an apartment building.
Smoke forced passersby back
Two passersby tried to control the fire with hand fire extinguishers, but the thick and acrid smoke forced them to retreat. A respiratory protection team entered the apartment, while another group checked and ventilated the stairwell and adjacent apartments.
No one in the fire apartment
Fortunately, no one was in the fire apartment. Because the Florianis were on site so quickly, the fire could not spread and was declared ‘fire out’ after about 20 minutes. After attempting to extinguish the fire, the two passers-by were taken to a hospital for checks, while fellow firefighters carried out a fire watch. After about two hours the operation was over.
