An Audi A3 caught fire after crashing into a tree in Putzleinsdorf. The 18-year-old driver was able to escape the wreck. This brought back bad memories for the fire chief of Putzleinsdorf. Almost exactly eight years ago, a woman of the same age in the same region (Upper Austria) was burned to death in her car in a similar accident.
It was a hair’s breadth. An 18-year-old from Neustift skidded in her Audi A3 in Putzleinsdorf on Friday at 12.20 pm due to slush on the road and an incorrect speed. The car left the road, slid down the left embankment and crashed head-on into a tree.
“Happiness in Misfortune”
The girl was really lucky with adversity, even though that sounds corny. Because he was unharmed and was able to free himself from the car. A short time later the Audi caught fire. Three fire brigades extinguished the entire fire. The burnt trees were cut down on the orders of the district forest officer to prevent further damage.
Second use in a row
For the Putzleinsdorf fire brigade the day of the operation was not yet over, because at 5.46 pm there was another alarm, and again it was about a burning car: “Because there were some comrades in the fire station to carry out the annual resuscitation . protection fin test, that was a problem “The fully occupied fire truck immediately went to the operational address,” reports FF commander Manuel Mager. After about an hour and a half of extinguishing the fire, the vehicle was handed over to the owner and the deployed troops were deployed again.
Bad memories
“It’s always like this with us. Nothing happens for a long time, and then there are always two missions in a row,” says Commander Mager. For him, the accident with the burning Audi brought back bad memories of a very similar, but much more tragic accident on January 15, 2017 in Aigen im Mühlkreis: at that time, Nadine E., who was also only 18, drove her car into a bend to the right on snow, first crashed into the guardrail and then into the car of a 49-year-old from Klaffer. The 18-year-old’s car, who could not free himself, immediately caught fire, which spread to the other party’s car. She was able to escape. Nadine, a cashier at the Hochficht ski lifts, burned helplessly.
