An anonymous letter to the Mödling Police Station in February exposed a gang of burglars and thieves. According to Tuesday’s information, the group is responsible for more than 100 crimes in Vienna, Lower Austria, Burgenland and Styria.
In the letter dated February 16, two young men were charged with burglary. Police investigations have raised suspicions against the duo, a 17-year-old from Vienna and an 18-year-old from Mödling. The public prosecutor then ordered a search.
Numerous stolen goods secured
On March 2, numerous stolen goods were secured in the younger man’s apartment. Further investigation also found a 26-year-old and a 27-year-old, both from Vienna, and then a 20-year-old from the St. Pölten district and a peer from the Korneuburg district. Most suspects confessed. The 17-, 26- and 27-year-olds were arrested.
67 burglaries and 34 thefts
According to the police, since 2020 the gang has been committing the crimes in various constellations in the four states. A total of 67 burglaries and 34 robberies were attributed to the men. They mainly broke into firehouses, construction sites, construction containers, schools, unused hotels, restaurants and commercial buildings.
Stolen goods worth 110,000 euros
The main stolen items were tools, radios, laptops, cell phones and various electronic devices. According to the state police of Lower Austria, the value of the stolen goods is at least 110,000 euros. Three suspects are in custody and three others have been reported.
