In the two years before the attack on the Magdeburg Christmas market, suspect Taleb A. was involved in seven investigations. In five cases he filed a complaint himself and in two cases he was the suspect (see video above).
In one case, Taleb A. threatened a lawyer who had once represented him in proceedings, as well as his family and employees of the law firm. A report was subsequently filed against him and the police visited the psychiatrist on October 4, 2024. With a so-called threat approach, the police want to give the signal that they are keeping an eye on a potential criminal. The person concerned is asked to refrain from certain behavior.
As reported, 50-year-old Taleb A. drove a car through the Magdeburg Christmas market shortly before Christmas. Five people were killed and almost 300 people were injured. The University Hospital of Magdeburg has now announced that all injured people treated by them are out of danger.
Healthcare company doesn’t know why
The man from Saudi Arabia is in custody. He has been working as a department doctor in the criminal justice system in Bernburg (Saxony-Anhalt) since 2020 and worked with addicted delinquents. Although the workplace hazard was addressed, healthcare company Salus said there was no communication with police. The reason for the visit was not disclosed, the company said.
When it comes to crime prevention, German police are generally allowed to pass on personal data to authorities. In the case of Taleb A. no reason was seen for this. “Taleb A. gave his superiors no reason to doubt his medical qualifications,” a Salus spokeswoman said. However, according to reports, his colleagues did this.
