Is the danger of tobogganing underestimated? Every year in Austria, thousands of people are injured during this recreational activity – there are even fatalities. An expert wants to raise awareness with accident statistics and describes what to look out for when tobogganing.
Already on New Year’s Day, several fatal tobogganing accidents took place in Tyrol, with some people seriously injured. And in this still young year, things continued in this spirit. Recently a major crash took place on a toboggan run in Ehrwald (Reutte district). There was a real collision after several German holidaymakers got in each other’s way on Friday evening. A teenage girl (17) suffered a broken femur and a 22-year-old rural woman suffered injuries to her collarbone.
Only a short time later the next emergency occurred – this time in the Kufstein district. A 52-year-old from Upper Bavaria came from the toboggan run on the Schneeberg in Thiersee. He crashed into a tree three meters below the path. According to the police, the man suffered several broken bones!
