Naturally, they did not want to wait until January 19 to cast their vote: an early voting day took place throughout Burgenland on Friday – and there was great interest. Nearly 34,300 people already cast their votes on Friday.
Exactly 34,267 people – including some top candidates – took advantage of the opportunity to vote. This means that 13.7 percent of eligible voters have already made their decision.
More and more people are voting early
The trend is increasing. In the 2015 state election, 8.55 percent of eligible voters used early voting at that time, and in 2020 that was just over 11 percent.
Partly high participation
On Friday there was a particularly high turnout in the municipalities of Badersdorf (41 percent), Heugraben (31 percent) and Bildein (30 percent). However, Bruckneudorf, Oberwart and Jennersdorf were much more reserved, each with a participation of around 7 percent. Apparently people are waiting for the regular election day on January 19.
Voting cards popular
There are also many people who use the option to cast their vote with a voting card. This offer is also likely to become increasingly popular. No concrete figures are available, but one indication is that the ‘flying election authority’ service is being used less and less.
