Asylum seekers and prisoners continue to receive the climate bonus. The majority of the National Council on Wednesday rejected a counter-motion by the FPÖ. There was also no approval for the FPÖ’s request to allow the people to vote to end sanctions against Russia.
This motion was not supported by any other group. There was relatively more approval for the climate bonus, which according to the FPÖ should not be given to asylum seekers and prisoners. There were 25 votes in favor and 139 clearly against.
The subject had led to heated debates in the election campaign of the Tyrolean state, among other things. ÖVP Secretary General Laura Sachslehner was disturbed by the fact that asylum seekers also received the climate bonus and resigned because the ÖVP thought the migration policy was too lax.
SPÖ voted against public corona aid
In addition to the FPÖ, the SPÖ also failed with an application. She wanted to postpone the planned CO₂ tax. On the other hand, the 2021 federal financial statement and a legislative proposal that forms the legal basis for the publication of the federal corona aid were accepted. In the future – as reported – Corona financing for companies from 10,000 euros per year will be included in a database. Only the SPÖ voted against.
As for the federal accounts, it can be said that Austria had a government deficit of 5.9 percent of GDP (gross domestic product, note) in 2021. Public debt remained high at 82.8 percent of GDP. Austria again failed to meet the Maastricht criteria (government deficit of less than three percent of GDP and public debt of no more than 60 percent).
