Joke got serious: a man from Graz (28) defended himself against an opponent he had insulted and knocked him unconscious on the Bim rail in Graz. As the “Krone” learned, the suspect recently turned himself in. Why did he strike? His lawyer explains.
The case in Graz is compared to the brutal attack on Rapid attacker Guido Burgstaller: Shortly before Christmas, a Bosnian man (36) was knocked unconscious with a punch on the Jakoministraße in Graz early in the morning and was left lying on the tram tracks. The perpetrator ran away and the police were looking for him.
Now the man he was looking for, a man from Graz, has turned himself in, his lawyer Andreas Kleinbichler confirms. His client justifies himself as follows: he was celebrating with friends and on his way home. Although not that tall himself, the 28-year-old joked about a Bosnian walking in front of him, calling him a “garden gnome.” He did not find it funny at all in the presence of his ex-girlfriend and, according to the man from Graz, attacked him with “storm attacks” and asked him to fight.
The suspect, an autistic person who reacts in panic to physical proximity, punched the Bosnian, causing him to fall unconscious on the Bim rail. The grazer’s attempt to drag the victim away failed, after which he stopped the approaching tram – and then fled in fear.
Attorney Kleinbichler: “My client deeply regrets his behavior, but the injury was the result of his opponent’s provocative behavior, which caused my client great fear.”
