Fourth day of the unrest announced by activists of the last generation in Vienna: On Thursday, the climate demonstrators blocked the Linke Wienzeile, the Margaretengurtel and the Sechshauser Gurtel.
The police were deployed en masse. Most participants were quickly removed from the two protection routes and several lanes were soon reopened.
‘We won’t let ourselves get caught up in the opera’
After a two-year break, the Vienna Opera Ball will take place again on Thursday. There were suspicions that the activists would also have planned actions at the ball ball. A spokesman for the last generation had recently denied this to the APA. “We certainly won’t get stuck in the opera.” No actions are planned on the red carpet either. They want to focus much more on the current wave of protests.
For two weeks, the activists want to temporarily paralyze the main traffic routes in the federal capital to draw attention to the climate crisis. On Monday, the demonstrators held on to the Naschmarkt. On Tuesday there was a blockade at the Kennedy Bridge and a blockade was just prevented by the police in front of the Schönbrunn Palace. On Wednesday there was a stabbing action on both sides of the belt at Westbahnhof.
