2,500 National Guard officers are being mobilized to assist at six hotspots in the Los Angeles area.
US authorities reported this Sunday that the number of fatalities from the fires that have struck the city of Los Angeles, California, has risen to 24.
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed five new deaths during the day. Likewise, through a statement published on its website, it indicated that the majority of victims, a total of 16 are from the Eaton firewhile the remaining eight are from Palisades.
It is worth noting that the authorities have warned about this the actual number of victims will not be known until researchers can access the affected areas. In addition, strong winds are expected to continue to complicate extinction efforts in the coming days.
For his part, California Governor Gavin Newsom has stated that all buildings damaged by the fire will be inspected within fourteen days, as more than fifty teams are working in this regard to evaluate and document each property.
Likewise, it has announced the deployment of another thousand members of the National Guardso that some 2,500 officers “are mobilized to help keep communities devastated by the fires safe.”
Currently, there are six active outbreaks in Los Angeles, with the most significant, Palisades, which has burned more than 9,500 acres, is 11% contained, while Eaton is 27% contained. Hurst’s is 89% contained and the remaining three (Lidia, Sunset and Kenneth) are 100% contained.
The United States’ neighbors, Canada and Mexico, have announced the deployment of Canadian and Mexican firefighters, respectively, to California.
