International Press – Trump vs. Biden: One is Lying, the Other is Overwhelmed

Date:

Joe Biden could not dispel the concerns about his health during his first TV duel with Donald Trump. The international press is harsh on both candidates. Because one is lying and the other is simply overwhelmed.

More than four months before the American presidential elections, incumbent Joe Biden and his challenger Donald Trump had a heated exchange of words in their first TV match. In the ninety-minute debate in Atlanta on Thursday, they discussed, among other things, the state of the economy, abortion and the wars in Ukraine and the Gaza Strip. It was the first direct meeting between the two opponents since October 2020.

The two politicians hurled insults at each other, accusing each other of being liars, criminals and the worst presidents of all time.

This is how international media react to the first TV match between Joe Biden and Donald Trump:

Great Britain
BBC: “Before Thursday night, many Americans had raised concerns about Joe Biden’s age and fitness for office. To say that this debate had done little to assuage those concerns would be one of the biggest understatements of the year.”

“Guardian”: “Joe Biden, clearly nursing a cold, mumbled his way through the debate and was unable to deliver his elegantly worded sentences accurately. Donald Trump, a prolific purveyor of falsehoods, repeatedly told lies and avoided answering tough questions.”

Spain
“El País”: “Biden fails in debate with Trump in attempt to allay concerns about his age. “The ex-president piles up misinformation and lies about the president, who in turn, through his hesitation, his hoarseness and his blunders, is unable to face a duel full of personal attacks.”

France
‘Le Monde’: ‘With a hoarse voice, stuttering and not finishing sentences, Joe Biden failed to allay concerns about his age (81). Donald Trump, 78, seemed more combative. Never before have Americans had to choose between candidates who were both so old.’

You have
CBC News: “Joe Biden sounded hoarse, his energy level seemed low, he lost his train of thought at various points in the debate. … And Donald Trump does what Donald Trump often does: He speaks with confidence, he has energy, but so much of what he said tonight is absolutely not factually correct.”

Mexico
“El Universal”: “Biden stumbles while Trump lies and refuses to respect election results.”
