After several fire extinguishers were activated in a parking garage in Jenbach last Thursday, the next operation took place in the Tyrolean city on Sunday. The community is considering further steps. The police investigation is in full swing.
There is currently no peace at the car park of the Austrian Railways in Jenbach. As extensively reported, unknown perpetrators carried out a major operation there last Thursday. Several fire extinguishers were activated on one floor.
Major material damage
The released extinguishing powder contaminated and damaged the ground and numerous vehicles. The damage is extensive. Passers-by saw the smoke and raised the alarm. “Restoring fire protection measures and thoroughly cleaning the affected area will take time,” the Jenbach fire brigade said.
Before this happened, vandals struck again on Sunday: they grabbed a fire extinguisher and sprayed it around. Parked vehicles were again covered in fog and damaged by the powder. “The extent of the damage is not yet known, but it will probably be significant,” police said.
Ask about compensation and video surveillance
After the first act of vandalism, BM Dietmar Wallner explained to the “Krone” that he wanted to make the perpetrators pay for the damage – if possible. Full video surveillance is also being considered. But this is a question of financing. “It’s a shame you have to do it this way. The paradox is that it has always been at night, but now it is the middle of the day.”
Further investigations are underway
If vehicles are covered in powder, this can have serious consequences because it acts like sandpaper on the paint. The municipality recommends documenting the contamination, immediately blowing or vacuuming it outside and reporting this. The police keep a low profile when it comes to the question of the perpetrators: “The investigation is still ongoing, but we cannot say more.” The reason why this parking lot in particular was affected is probably because it is close to the train station and many people meet there.
