State of emergency declared! – Mexican border town fears an “invasion”

Date:

Mexico is trembling at Donald Trump’s announced mass deportations. The border city of Tijuana has now even declared a state of emergency due to threats from the American president-elect.

The move, which was unanimously approved by the Tijuana City Council on Monday, will make funding available to accommodate the possible arrival of deportees.

The money is used, among other things, to hire staff and pay for housing and legal aid. The goal is to ensure “dignified treatment” of deported migrants, Tijuana Mayor Ismael Burgueño said.

The Mexican city of two million people south of San Diego, California, is one of the main places along the border where migrants go in hopes of crossing into the US. There are numerous accommodations in Tijuana that accommodate foreigners from all over South America and elsewhere.

The Great Quake Before the ‘Invasion’
Trump, who has repeatedly described the arrival of migrants in the United States as an “invasion,” has pledged to declare a national emergency at the border with Mexico and deport millions of undocumented immigrants after taking office on January 20.

According to estimates by the American opinion research institute Pew Research Center, approximately four million Mexican migrants were living in the US in 2022 without a valid residence permit.

The Mexican government said in December it would set up an app with a warning button for migrants at risk of arrest in the United States. According to the Mexican Foreign Minister, the application should be ready this month and the families of those affected will also be informed.
