The works of the Topo de Donostia are progressing into their final phase. That is currently the case track installation completed at Bentaberri stationthe first of three to include the El Topo railway variant. This Wednesday, the Lehendakari, Imanol Pradales, and the Minister of Sustainable Mobility, Susana García Chueca, visited the works carried out by the public company Euskal Trenbide Sarea (ETS), accompanied by the Mayor of Donostia, Eneko Goia.

During the visit, the lehendakari He emphasized that El Topo will contribute to improving the quality of life of thousands of people and puts Donostia at the forefront of mobility. He added that “since we have all the railway powers, Donostia will be a pioneer in completing a local train network highest level. A network that will connect the entire territory and help structure Euskadi.”

For his part, the advisor Susana García emphasized that the new infrastructure “is a strategic project for the future of mobility in Gipuzkoa, with the to meet the needs of citizens and encourage them to leave their carsLikewise, he wanted to emphasize that “the space freed up by the railway will significantly improve the city, with more land for housing, pedestrian and recreational areas.”

The installation of the Bentaberri tracks completes the implementation of the double track from the current Lugaritz terminal to the future Bentaberri terminal, which will serve the Antiguo district. In figures, the 4.2 kilometers of the variant will require 8,400 meters of track, which equates to 907 tons of steel, and a total of 10,500 concrete sleepers. Of the 2,140 meters of the first part of the new infrastructure (Lugaritz-Miraconcha), 1,690 meters of the left track and 1,340 meters of the right track have already been constructed.

The civil works on this section were completed two years ago and, following the installation of the track, work is now focusing on equipping the low-voltage electrical installations on the platforms and technical areas of the Bentaberri station, as well as preparing the emergency exit to Zarautzlaan.

All electromechanical access (escalators, moving walks and lifts) to the Bentaberri and Easo terminals have been installed. Therefore, the rest of the installation work, related to communications, electrification (catenary) and signaling, necessary for train traffic, will begin in the first quarter of this year.

On the other hand, in the Miraconcha-Easo segmentthe Easo station is practically completed. The Centro-La Concha cave has been fully excavated and supported, but civil work remains. The concreting of the counter vault has been completed and the structural concrete coating is in progress, as well as all interior architecture of the future terminal; i.e. platforms, rail platforms, mezzanines or stainless steel lobbies and the final coating of vitrified steel.

Finally, the excavations and maintenance of the 6 ventilation galleries and technical rooms have been carried out and the shaft for the elevator on Easostraat has been completed.

The surface urbanization works on San Bartolomé and Easo streets have an independent project and will start next week, after the celebration of San Sebastián Day.
