Greenpeace Unveiled: – Vegetable yoghurts considerably more climate – friendly

Date:

According to a market control from Greenpeace, vegetable yogurt is made of soy and oats considerably more climate -friendly than those of cow’s milk. Almost every second vegetable yogurt is organic, while it is less than 30 percent in cow’s milk yoghurts, the NGO emphasized.

According to Greenpeace, the vegetable yogurt can score with the climate effects: yogurt made of soy and oats cause only a third of the climate footprint of animal ingredients.

No reusable pots in plants yogurt
In this context, the NGO demanded: “More reusable glasses!” In the reusable glass there is currently only cow’s milk yogurt. The first place in comparing the reach on the market control occupied Billa and Spar. “For our environment and the climate, a yogurt from soy or oats is a much better choice than a made of cow’s milk. Everyone who relies on organic products makes the most sustainable decision. Unfortunately there are no herbal yogurt in environmentally friendly reusable glass, ”said Sebastian Theissing-Matei, agricultural expert at Greenpeace.

More than 50 percent of soy’s vegetable replacement products
Eating more greengrocer is a contribution to climate protection-even with natural yogurt. The selection in the supermarkets is also available: more than half of the vegetable products consists of soy, each about 20 percent is oats and coconut, the rest of almonds. Half come on oats, about a quarter of Austrian agriculture and otherwise usually from the EU. In all organically produced soy yogurt, the soybeans also came exclusively from Austria.

No soy made from genetic manipulation in most yogurt of cow’s milk
On Monday, Greenpeace referred to the best choice for people, animals and climate, which was environmentally friendly. Genetically modified soy is not allowed here in the feed trough. With one exception, the traditionally produced yoghurts of cow’s milk in market control was confirmed that no soy of genetic manipulation was fed: only the food company Danone could not present confirmation for his Activia Yogurt.

Greenpeace saw the need for improvement in the package because the yoghurts of soy, oats and co. not available in the refillable glass. Reusable glasses and bottles can be topped up about 40 times. Unfortunately, the environmentally friendly reusable glasses in the conventional Austrian supermarket chains are currently only available at Kuhmilch in Austria, said it.
