It is now somewhat clear what really happened in the shooting on Tuesday of a Chechen (38) in the Neue Heimat district of Linz: according to the police, it was about raising money. The Chechen wanted several thousand euros from a Syrian (43) who owed a friend something. Instead, the collector got a bullet.
Initially, the police information about the course of the crime was more than contradictory. In fact, the initial report stated that the two men collided on a public bus and that the gunfight then took place at a bus stop. The following is now the case: According to the LKA Upper Austria, the Chechens had been instructed by a friend to collect 4,000 to 5,000 euros from the Syrian (43), who owed the latter to the friend. The Chechens then called the Syrian and arranged a meeting.
Confrontation on Benzstrasse
Shortly before 11 a.m. on Tuesday, a showdown took place in Benzstrasse in Neue Heimat. The Chechens wanted the Syrian to come on board. He refused, stood on the driver’s side, and after a brief altercation, pulled out a Czech-made pistol and fired a shot into the Chechen’s right shoulder. The suspected shooter then fled. Thanks to the victim’s initial statements, he was identified from photographs and later arrested. The Chechen, who had suffered a bullet, began to show gaps in his memory during the second interview.
His past life is dazzling
Despite his typical Syrian name, the highly criminal Syrian pretends to be Albanian and also moves in Albanian drug circles. The 43-year-old was first convicted in 2008. He has a total of six previous convictions to his name. One for theft, two for assault, two for coercion and one for drug use. In 2013, the Syrian was sentenced to just 18 months in partial prison for theft.
The suspect has already been taken to Linz prison and the public prosecutor will request that he be placed in pre-trial detention.
