Emergency services had to go to a rescue operation in Bad Ischl (Upper Austria) after a 16-year-old girl fell during a canyoning school trip.
The 16-year-old from Vienna went with her school class on a guided canyoning tour through the so-called Steinbachgraben during the three-day outdoor days. At a rock step about two meters high, which must be overcome by jumping, a guide stood at the edge of the jump and the second a little lower to take pictures from there. When it was the turn of the 16-year-old to walk to the edge of the jump, she slipped despite her special canyoning shoes and fell into the pool of water below.
Rescue with rope
She injured her right leg so badly that she could not walk further. A guide and teacher provided first aid and stayed with the injured while the rest of the participants followed the route. The 16-year-old had to be tied down by the mountain rescue team using a pulley system about 50 meters to a forest road, where she was handed over to the rescue team and taken to Bad Ischl hospital.
