A fierce fire broke out late Saturday evening in an apartment building in Vienna’s 23rd district. One person was injured. Thanks to the fire brigade, something worse was prevented.
When the fire brigade was called to Erlaaer Strasse in Vienna-Liesing around 10:30 p.m., they saw a terrible scene: Huge flames were coming from several windows and the roof had already started to burn. A catastrophe was looming.
Using breathing apparatus, firefighters gained access to the stairwell and eventually reached the second-floor apartment, which was on fire. Firefighting lines were deployed from outside using a turntable ladder, the fire department wrote in a press release. Eight vehicles and 35 men ultimately prevented the flames from spreading further.
The operation took two hours
A powerful fan had to ventilate the house. The roof surface was examined under respiratory protection, which allowed the elimination of several embers. At 12:30 the danger was finally averted. There was one person in the fire apartment; he had to be taken to hospital after emergency medical treatment. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
