It should have been a fun Sunday outing, but instead a family of three experienced terrible scenes at the Maisenkögerl in Scharnstein (Upper Austria). The partner (42) of a mother and her child fell ten meters and had to be rescued with great difficulty.
On Sunday afternoon, a 42-year-old man from the Kirchdorf district climbed with his partner and her son from the Tießenbachtal to the Bräumauer and further to the Maisenkögerl. Not far from the top of the Maisenkögerl, at 900 meters above sea level, at the beginning of the rocky summit structure with an easy climbing section, the hiker climbed onto a stone that became loose and broke loose.
Steep terrain
The 42-year-old tried to find his footing but failed and ended up falling about ten meters over steep, rocky terrain.
Severe pain
After the injured hiker complained of severe pain, his partner started the rescue chain. After the injured person received initial care from the emergency doctor, the Alpine Police and the mountain rescue team, he was absorbed to a forest road with the help of a mountain stretcher and rope safety, where he was handed over to the Red Cross. The 42-year-old was seriously injured as a result of the accident. He was then taken to the Welskliniek for further treatment.
There were 18 men from the Grünau mountain rescue service, two Alpine police officers, two emergency doctors from the rescue helicopter Martin 3 from Scharnstein and the Red Cross present.
