On Wednesday, the emergency services in Mellach (Styria) were called for a delicate operation: a man had fallen with his car into the icy Mühl Canal and had to be rescued.
The Mellach volunteer fire brigade was called in the early hours of Wednesday morning. They were called to a vehicle recovery in the Dillach district, where a driver had fallen into the Mühl Canal with his silver car. The man was still trapped in the car and had to be rescued as quickly as possible.
The driver was uninjured
Emergency services climbed to the stream bed using an extension ladder and gained access to the vehicle. The man suffered from severe hypothermia and was brought to the rescue; Miraculously, he remained unharmed.
Together with the Gössendorf fire brigade, the car was then lifted out of the stream and the volunteers were able to return to the armory after about two hours.
