Agility and strong nerves were required on Sunday evening when excavating the 230 -tonne supporting structure of the Oude Murbrug on the southern highway near Graz airport. The steel frame has been dug out with three cranes and brought to a parking space, where it is now being prepared for recycling.
The last ride on the Oude Murbrug on the southern highway A2 between Graz-East and Feldkirchen/Airport started spectacularly on Sunday evening. Three cranes were needed to lift the remaining construction, a steel frame of 230 tons, from its place.
Starting problems
“The steel colossus initially turned out to be more stubborn than expected,” reports Asfinag. “From midnight the time had come and the crane operators were able to lift the nearly 100 meter long structure centimeters by centimeters and put it on a special vehicle on the road to remove it.” Abandoned parking space, where it was, is split into small parts and processed for recycling.
The old bridge foundations, the so -called land heads, are therefore demolished, after which the new bridge pillars are being worked on, on which the new northern bridge can be built at the end of this year.
