Up to two meters high – toxic river in Indonesia full of waste again

Date:

Despite years of efforts, the Indonesian authorities are unable to control the enormous mountains of waste in the Citarum River on the island of Java. In recent days, heavy rainfall, flooding and strong wind have again provided mountains of waste.

Waste water and waste from textile factories are responsible for the pollution, among other things. Countless residents also dump their household waste in the river. At the same time, 27 million people in West Java and the capital Jakarta are dependent on the water from the Citarum.

It is considered the dirtiest river in the world. In 2008, hundreds of millions of dollars were pulled out to clean things, but apparently without results. Since the beginning of the year, 19 tonnes of waste has gathered over a length of 800 meters. Civil servants are busy with boats to step by step by step by step by step.

Last year the Indonesian government proudly presented the progress when cleaning up the river. She also invested a lot of money.
