A 30-year-old Pakistaner who showed signs of a mental illness died in a Hindu exorcism ritual. The pregnant woman had previously been abused for days in a temple with strokes and stairs.
According to the Pakistani police, the questionable ritual took place on the site of a temple in the southern province of Sindh. The expectant mother was held there for days. According to local media, people who live near the Temple were shouting at night who stole their sleep.
Healer in custody
In the good faith of two self -proclaimed healers, the family of the woman was reversed. There is hardly any access to psychiatric care in the remote region. After the death of the 30-year-old, both healers were arrested. The area of the temple was also searched whether an autopsy was performed on the woman.
Exorcism widespread in the country
In Pakistan, practices such as exorcism are widespread in rural areas, both in Muslim and the Hindu and Christian minority. The reason for this is a lack of doctors or clinics for mental disorders.
