Good news for fans of Carnival: on the occasion of the 300th anniversary of Casanova, Venice does without the registration fee during the carnival.
Good news for fans of masks, costumes and city travel! During the famous carnival in Venice, which takes place from 14 February to 4 March 2025, no entrance fee for day tourists will be charged. The city council has decided to suspend the controversial reimbursement of five euros per person during this festive time. It is only from April 18 that the reimbursement will be re -introduced on certain weekends and holidays.
The start of decadence
This year’s carnival is all about the 300th birthday of Giacomo Casanova, the legendary female hero of the 18th century. The celebrations start on Valentine’s Day with a big show on Markuplatz and along the large channel, all of which is about the loved ones. Organizer Massimo Checchetto emphasizes: “With Casanova we celebrate the 18th century in which Venice experienced his highest shine, but also the beginning of his decadence.”
For the many carnival fans from Austria and other countries, this means that you can enjoy the crowds in the Lagoon City without extra costs. The five euros access price for day tourists will only be charged in various weekends and holidays from April 18.
This year, the Carnival of Venice also offers a diverse program with parades, music and extensive costumes. Visitors can look forward to countless events that celebrate the unique culture and history of the city. A highlight is the traditional “angel flight” on February 16, in which a person floats from the Markuplatz from the Markt tower.
