Stitch from six months – Vienna plans vaccination routes for babies and toddlers

Date:

Next Corona excitement! Vienna now also plans vaccinations for children from six months.

The excitement over the childhood vaccination is entering the next round. Because Vienna is considering opening the vaccination routes for babies from six months. Even if it raises the hairs of vaccine skeptics on such considerations, the demand from parents of small children is huge.

Unvaccinated children should K1 in quarantine
This is not only due to the fear of the disease, but mainly to the fact that, under the current Vienna quarantine regulation, unvaccinated children are still classified as K1 if they come into close contact with a person infected with the virus. Covid and have to go into quarantine for ten days (with the possibility of a free test at the earliest after five days).

Challenge for working parents
A very special challenge for working parents: “My child has been isolated five times in the past year alone. I don’t know how to argue that with my employer anymore,” said a desperate store employee.

US vaccine approval already received
Vaccination of young children is already common in the US. In Vienna, some pediatricians vaccinate babies off-label, ie outside of approval. But the waiting times are very long. 5008 of these vaccinations were given to children aged zero to four years. “I assume that the vaccine for children under five will be approved in Europe soon. I think that’s smart and necessary,” says alderman for Public Health Peter Hacker (SPÖ).
