The long-awaited summer vacation starts on Friday for all students in the east of the country. Traffic jams are not long in coming. Experts expect a “lightning start” on vacation due to the corona pandemic.
About 490,000 children and young people in Vienna, Lower Austria and Burgenland will start their nine-week summer vacation on Friday after the certificate was awarded. For the approximately 650,000 students in the other federal states, the holiday starts a week later. School will resume on September 5 in the east and September 12 in the west.
Nearly 40,000 pupils attend summer school in the last two school weeks, more or less bringing the start of the school forward.
Great desire to travel
Given the great wanderlust due to the corona pandemic, the ÖAMTC expects a “lightning start” to the holidays and significant traffic jams this time. In addition to Eastern Austria, the school year in the Czech Republic, Slovakia and two German states will also end on Friday.
Air travel is also affected
As in recent days, travelers who want to fly by plane on holiday must take into account further delays and longer waiting times.
