Pope Francis met Tesla CEO Elon Musk and four of his children at the Vatican on Friday. The Pope and Musk talked about innovations in technology and declining birth rates, Italian media reported.
Falling birth rates, especially in western countries, would be of particular concern to the Pope. “It was an honor to meet the Pope,” Musk tweeted. The Tesla boss and father of eight posted a photo of him with Pope Francis.
Musk may also be concerned about declining birth rates, as he shared the US fertility rate on his own. The meeting, which lasted about an hour, is said to have discussed technology innovations.
Before meeting the Pope, Musk visited Venice. Alongside a photo of himself and a young woman, he wrote that the city was a “place of great memories.”
