Tens of thousands expected – carnival in Venice opened with a big show

The traditional carnival started in Venice on Friday. The Italian city will now attract tens of thousands of tourists for three weeks. By March 4, impressive masks will be seen on the street and dozens of events on the street, such as dance shows and concerts.

The Carnival festivities of the stage designers of the Opera House La Fenice, Massimo Checchetto organized. On Friday afternoon they were opened with a big show on Markuplatz and at the Canal Grande. One of the highlights is the SO -Called Marienfest on 22 February. It is reminiscent of the victory of Venice in 943 about the pirates who abducted twelve young girls at a wedding. The fiancé organized a chase and released the girls who were then worn throughout the city. A movement with twelve young Venetian women is planned in memory.

Admission price exposed
For the duration of the carnival before 4 March, day tourists do not have to pay an admission price. This is five euros per person and will be charged on April 18 on a few weekends and public holidays, on which many tourists are expected. Moreover, the police officers were raised in the Lagoon city.

The legendary adventurer Giacomo Casanova is honored in the carnival. The celebrations were first mentioned in 1094. At the moment they came to Napoleon temporarily, in 1979 they were brought back to life by theater people and other artists. The festival ends with a large fireworks.
