Russian physicist Dmitri Kolker died a few days after his captivity in Moscow. He was suffering from end-stage pancreatic cancer. Kolker was charged with treason for allegedly leaking secrets to China. His son has now revealed that the Secret Service had interfered with lectures.
According to his son, the researcher lectured for students in China, but was always accompanied by FSB agents. Even the content of the lectures should have been coordinated with the secret service so that no information that is considered a state secret appeared in China.
Kolker, 54, headed the Laboratory of Quantum Optics Technologies at the Institute for Laser Physics at Novosibirsk State University. Quantum optics is concerned with how light and matter interact. The physicist helped develop lasers for medical purposes, among other things.
A few days ago, he was arrested for high treason and taken to a detention center. When his health deteriorated due to pancreatic cancer, Kolker was transferred to the intensive care unit of a Moscow hospital. He died there, the Interfax news agency announced on Sunday.
Scientists were increasingly chasing
In addition to Kolker, the Russian police also arrested 75-year-old Anatoly Maslov, who was investigating hypersonics. Since the beginning of the war, Russian scientists have been increasingly prosecuted for alleged high treason. Shortly after the attack on Ukraine, there were several cases.
