In the cardiology of Innsbruck alone, around 1,000 acute heart attacks are provided, as Innsbruck’s cardiology clinic director Axel Bauer reports. Because the general people get older, it simply increases “the number of heart attacks,” says the top doctor. Moreover, heart attacks can be determined better and better, which drives up the statistics.

More and more older people survive heart attacks
The fact that the number has doubled since 2015 is also due to the fact that they can be treated better, for example with minimal invasive methods. Only a small intervention and no operation is needed here. Such minimal interventions and improved therapies meant that “more and more older people can survive heart attacks” and can therefore become more in old age, explains Bauer.

Heart attacks are not due to a bad lifestyle
The disease would certainly not be related to a poor lifestyle or lack of health consciousness. “On the contrary, I believe that health consciousness has even improved in recent years,” says Bauer. This is also clear in the fact that “mortality in industrialized countries has been falling clearly for some time”.

AI can recognize the risk of heart attack
Artificial intelligence (AI) is also becoming increasingly important in the field of cardiology – the branch of medicine that deals with the heart. With the help of AI you can, for example, discover the “biological age” of a person, as Bauer explains. The AI ​​can therefore determine “how old the body really is.” If the “biological age” differs from the actual age, “this can be derived from an increased risk of heart disease.”
