Feared the end of a carnival celebration in Niklasdorf, Obertsyria: As was now only known, a woman and a man were caught and killed by a train while crossing the railways last Saturday (March 1).
The 59-year-old Styrian and her 49-year-old companion visited a carnival party in Niklasdorf (Leoben District) on Saturday. Shortly after 10 p.m. they wanted to cross the railway tracks in the area of the train station to the federal road, of course to save themselves a longer path. After various accidents in the past, ÖBB responded and secured the traces with a wall around the train station.
“Tragic accident”
Unfortunately, the man and the woman found a gap who eventually did their downfall. At 10:19 am they were admitted by an incoming train. Both died at the scene of the accident. After the accident there was a lot of speculation on social media. Now the spokesperson for the Police Heimo Kohlbacher clarifies: “Unfortunately, the incident was a tragic accident.”
The executive power initially also considered suicide. According to an autopsy, witness surveys and a reconstruction of the path of the two crashes, it was clear after an autopsy commissioned by the public prosecutor of Leoben, that it was really an accident.
