Success at Ragzia – Police pull 90 illegal firearms from traffic

During a joint campaign from different authorities, 90 firearms of different categories, more than ten thousand shot amunition and Nazi devotionals, could be guaranteed. Several suspects were displayed on the free base.

The Austria -Wide Joint Action Day (JAD) was coordinated and managed at the end of February by the State Protection and Intelligence Service Management. Together with the state offices of state protection and exemplary battles (LSE) Lower Austria, Vienna, Upper Austria, Burgenland, Styria, Tyrol and Vorarlberg, house search assignments were carried out at 14 locations. The Cobra Operating Command was also in use. The authorities had ten male suspects in their sights.

Karner: “Gone is consistently continued”
And the officials found what they were looking for: countless forbidden objects according to the Weapon Act, the War Material Act and the prohibition law could be guaranteed in the campaign. According to Minister of the Interior Gerhard Karner, the measure was preceded by months of investigation. “This path has continued consistently,” said the politician of the ÖVP.

Minister of Justice Anna Sporrer congratulated the judicial and security authorities with this success. “Together with the local director, our public prosecutors do excellent work in the fight against extremism and every day organized crime,” she said. The State Secretary for State Protection and Intelligence of Directorate, Jörg Leichtfried, emphasized: “This success of research shows how important a professional protection of the constitution is for our democracy.”

The joint campaign was preceded last year by a house search in Lower Austria, in which, in addition to illegal war material and Nazi -devotional, data carriers were also secured. The latter led the researchers to the trail of ten other suspects in Vienna, Burgenland, Lower Austria, Upper Austria, Tyrol, Vorarlberg and Styria.

The illegal arms trade is a serious safety problem, the State Police director Franz Ruf said. “Criminals and terrorists do not legally acquire their weapons. To limit or prevent illegal arms trade, causes, sources and buyers must be the purpose of the investigation, “said Ruf. A common procedure for the judicial and security authorities are also internationally essential.

The results of the searches are currently being viewed and evaluated, according to the authorities. The further investigation would therefore continue.
