Kater “Odin” in Baden (Lower Austria) wanted to explore an underground cavity. But the hunger for adventure had dramatic consequences: because sand and stones slipped, the tiger was stuck in the dark soil column for a day. The fire brigade was eventually warned.
The Baden Fire Brigade reports on an extraordinary and challenging animal rescue. “Odin”, a three-year-old Maine Coon-Kater, was driven from home and disappeared in a hole in the floor foundation of the forecourt. But all attempts to lure the Cording Discoverer out of the cavity have failed for the time being.
Caught in the ground column
When “Odin” did not make any settings the next day to go back to daylight, the owners floated poorly. In her need, the woman called the fire brigade to help. And the comrades went to the problem professionally. First of all, it was necessary to detect “Odin” in the column with the meter length of the earth. Which was not that easy. The light brown fur of the hangover was finally recognized in the light cone of a hand head lamp – behind sand and pieces of rock.
Search with camera
Apparently the soil had slipped into the cavity, so that “Odin” had no longer reached the surface. “During the further recovery, we had to continue with extreme caution,” says operations manager Stefan Schneider: “Simply digging up or opening was not possible because of the unstable substructure.” To better assess the location and accurate localization of the prisoner’s Tiger, they decided to use a pipe inspection camera.
Drill, Head – The Rescue
At the same time, in consultation with the owner, a few floor bites were removed to be able to perform exploratory drillings in the concrete foundation to explore the soil conditions. In combination with the camera, the emergency services approached the hangover until “Odin”, scared by the drilling and damping sounds, could escape from escaping outdoors.
With a courageous handle, however, the liberated prisoner was adjusted and handed over to his overwhelming owner. And this conquered the Tiger house to accommodate the arrest until further notice.
