After the wrong mask business around Hygiene Austria, 453 customers get money back. Alternatively, you can take two new Austrian production FFP2 masks for each old mask. A year ago in March, it was revealed that moonlight workers had rebranded the masks from China as ‘Made in Austria’.
It concerned about 20 million pieces of mouth and nose protection that had been sold to parliament and a large grocery store, among others. After initial denials, the subsidiary of domestic lingerie brand Palmers and exchange-focused fiber group Lenzing admitted to producing in China. After the fake deal became known, the Public Prosecutor’s Office for Business and Corruption launched an investigation into serious commercial fraud and the suspicion of organized illegal labour.
70 Euro return
The Chamber of Labor (AK), Palmers and Hygiene Austria have now agreed that 454 ex-buyers will receive an average of 70 euros back. Everyone who has registered for the second collection of the AK and still has mouth caps in the original packaging, will receive a full refund. For everyone else, it’s 60 percent of the purchase price. Alternatively, consumers can exchange any old mask for two new FFP2 masks from Austria.
As early as the winter of 2021, 57 consumers were refunded the full purchase price because they felt the label had cheated them.
