A lifeguard was attacked and injured by a shark on Sunday while training off the coast of Long Island in New York. Zachari Gallo fought for his life, but was eventually able to fend off and expel the predatory fish. Two beaches were closed immediately after the shark attack.
It was a typically beautiful morning at the beach, Gallo told CBS2 TV station. He was taking part in training with other lifeguards at around 10:15 a.m. (local time) when he was attacked by a shark, the family man describes the dramatic moments. “I felt intense, intense pain and when I felt the rubbery texture I knew it was some kind of shark,” Gallo said (see video above).
