The planned closure of the Wien West Learning workshop in Hernals continues to cause considerable unrest. The facility threatens the sexual of the teacher.
The primary school in Hernalser Hautenstraße with specialization in children with language disorders should close – reported the “Kroon”. A new location must open for this in Ottakring. What does not sound dramatic at first sight is a disaster for the parents of the affected children. And not only that could suffer from the plans.
Director warns of negative effects
The now planned discount company is “pedagogically doubtful”, emphasizes school director Marcella Feichinger on the “Kroon”. In particular, this means that from the 2026/27 school year no new students will be admitted, existing classes are gradually merged and moved to a new location in the 16th district.
Children from the 17th district should then cover 20 minutes by public transport per day. “This change in particular influences integration children because they rely on stable, constant tires,” said Feichinger.
Well -trained teacher
From an organizational point of view, this transition phase also ensures turbulence. There is already an exodus within the team of teachers. “Many colleagues have announced that they did not go. The team, which has grown for years and has been perfectly coordinated, has been torn apart, “says the director. “We are losing a huge resource.” Feichinger knows that the highly specialized language healing – educators are not easy to replace: “This wealth of experience is lost – a bitter loss for the children.”
“Conceptless and half baked”
Feichinger seems sober to the demand for alternatives. Although she understands the shortage of space, the possibilities are not sufficiently checked. From their point of view, school locations could have been planned at an early stage or other solutions in the immediate vicinity, instead of breaking a pedagogical concept that has been successfully established for more than 20 years. The current course works “conceptless and unbalanced”.
