“NULL-TOLERANTIE REGEL” -Vier Canadians in China executed for drugs

Date:

In China, four Canadian citizens have been executed for drug -related offenses. The applications of the Canadian government for grace were ignored, criticized Mélanie Joly Minister on Thursday. Beijing defended the executions in an explanation.

They acted in accordance with the law. In China, “all nationalities” would be dealt with that things were “strict and honest by law”. Earlier, the spokeswoman for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Mao Ning that drug offenses were the background of the execution. “Drug offenses are serious crimes that are considered extremely harmful to society worldwide.” Here there are always “hard punishments” and a “zero tolerance rule”.

Thousands of executions per year
Joly said she and the former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau asked the Chinese government for clementia, but in vain. The four convicts were performed. Details about the cases are not published because the family members have asked for privacy.

The NGO Amnesty International assumes that thousands of people in China are executed every year. Statistics about the death penalty are considered state secret.
