Industrial production in the Basque Country in May 2022 is a 9.1% higher compared to that of the same month last year, data from Eustat shows. Similarly, the industrial production index grew by 7.4% in the first five months of 2022, and compared to the month of May the previous month, industrial activity increased by 0.7%.
As for the historical areas, in Alava there is an increase 13.3%in Biscay growth is in the 9.3% and in Gipuzkoafinally, the rise is from 6.3%
The sectors that showed the highest year-over-year growth in the CAV in May are: electricity, gas and steam by 21.9%, means of transport with 21.8% and machinery and equipment by 11.6%. In the opposite direction, the only sector to see a decline in production is rubber and plastic, with a 2.5% decline.
The energy sector, which includes the supply of electricity and oil refining, has increased its output by 20.2%, while capital goods, including motor vehicle production, have increased by 14.4%.
Consumer goods, for their part, showed an annual increase of 7.3%, influenced by the 9.3% increase in consumer non-durables (food processing and canning activities) and the 0.7% increase in consumer durables (furniture and household devices).
Intermediate goods rose by 3.9%. The latter sector includes the activities of metallurgy and the manufacture of metal products.
